森閑

The luxury of silence.

A personal concept project — no real establishment, no real brand.

宿 · The house

A family house

Shinkan has always been the home of one family. Today it holds three guest rooms, never more than six guests, set back in the Hakone forest. The house opened to travellers only recently.

Three people

A grandmother who cooks. A grandfather who works wood. Their daughter, who lived abroad for years and came home: she prepares, welcomes and, when needed, translates. You are in their house, not in a hotel.

静 · The days

The workshop

In the morning, the grandfather opens his workshop. Beside him, you shape a spoon or a small tray from local wood. It is slow work, and you leave with something useful that you made yourself.

The table

In the evening, the grandmother cooks the seasonal dinner in front of you and explains each dish as it arrives. There is no menu to choose from. The season decides.

The forest

Between the two, a walk in the forest around the house, with one of the family or on your own. Nothing to reach, nothing to see. Only the quiet.

道 · The way

Not far from Tokyo, and a different pace.

The road climbs, the noise falls away, and the last stretch goes into the forest. The house is at the end of it. When you write to us, we tell you everything you need to arrive.
